Career Education

The BMSS Career Education Department provides the opportunity for students in grades 11 & 12 to gain knowledge and skills through hands-on work experience placements.  These placements are open to students in Grades 11 & 12 and provide students with the opportunity to:

  • develop job-seeking skills (application process, interview skills, resume writing, etc.)
  • experience the world of work in a variety of careers while still in high school
  • develop and refine employability skills
  • link course curriculum learned in high school to the world of work
  • develop self-confidence and self-esteem
  • complete the 30 hours of work experience graduation requirement
  • enroll in the Work Experience 12A Course (80-hour work experience)

The BMSS Career Education Department also facilitates applications for the Burnaby School District Industry Training Programs (Youth Train in Trades, Industry Connect, Industry Certification).  These programs can lead to industry certification, apprenticeship, and/or the development of a portfolio.  These can support application to post-secondary programs and/or employment.
