January Alternate Learning Week: January 22-26, 2024

As the New Year quickly approaches, we want to share some important information about the week of January 22-26, 2024, which is a Flexible Learning Week for all students. This week marks the end of Semester 1 and the transition to Semester 2. During this week we have important educational opportunities happening, including Provincial Assessments for all grade 10 students & a full day of learning for all Grade 8 students on Monday January 22 and a half day of learning for all Grade 9 students on Tuesday January 23. January Alternate Schedule Week (2024) FINAL

Provincial Assessments for ALL Grade 10 Students

This week we will be running two mandatory Provincial Assessments for all Grade 10 students: Numeracy 10 & Literacy 10. These assessments are graduation requirements as part of the BC Graduation Program.

  • Monday January 22 & Tuesday January 23 – All Grade 10 students will write the Numeracy 10 Assessment (each student will be scheduled to write on one of these two days)
  • Wednesday January 24 & Thursday January 25 – All Grade 10 students will write the Literacy 10 Assessment (each student will be scheduled to write on one of these two days)

  • We will be posting more specific details about where and when each student is scheduled to write their assessments in January on the Library windows.

Provincial Assessments for Grades 11 & 12 Students

  • Any Grade 11s or 12s who have not yet written the Numeracy 10, Literacy 10, or Literacy 12 Assessments, or who want to re-write the Literacy 12 Assessment (must sign up in advance) will be able to do so during this week.
  • A form will be sent out to all Grade 11/12 students during the first week of January for students to sign up for one of these sessions if required.

  • We will be posting more specific details about where and when each student is scheduled to write their assessments in January on the Library windows.

Grade 8 Day of Learning (ALL Grade 8 Students)

  • All Grade 8 students will have a mandatory full day of learning and activities on Monday January 22 from 10:00am-3:00pm.
  • This day will include learning and activities lead by our school’s Literacy & Healthy Schools Committee.
  • Lunch will be provided to all students on this day.
  • A student survey/QR code will be shared on January 8. Students will have from January 8-12 to complete the survey if they are planning to attend the activities on January 22. This must be completed if students want to be included in the lunch count/activities being planned for the day.

Grade 9 Half-Day of Learning (ALL Grade 9 Students)

  • All Grade 9 students will have a mandatory half day of learning and activities on Tuesday January 23 from 9:00am-3:00pm.
  • Students will be doing activities connected to the mandatory Digital Citizenship curriculum which is connected to our school wide Literacy Goal as well as learning about self-care and mental wellness which is connected to our school wide Healthy Schools Goal.
  • Grade 9 students with last names A-K will attend the morning (9am-11:30am). Grade 9 students with last names L-Z will attend the afternoon (12:30pm-3:00pm).

Learning Opportunities Grades 8-12

From Monday January 22 through Thursday January 25, 2024, we will be offering a variety of different learning opportunities for all Grade 8-12 students throughout each of our departments. We have put together a comprehensive document that breaks down learning opportunities by grade (one grade per page) for each of the 4 days this week. Please also note that Friday January 26 is a semester turn-around day, or a day for students to come in and resolve semester 1 grades.
